From the "Miss Mary Merryheart's Series" of large toy books, this recounting of the Robin Hood story contains six hand-colored woodcuts in addition to a number of untinted cuts; the coloring is somewhat more bold than it is precise, but vibrant and clearly done by the publisher rather than by any childish hand. The back cover advertises a long list of other "Coloured Six-Penny Books" from Dean & Son.
Provenance: From the children's book collection of Albert A. Howard, sans indicia. Publisher's printed light green paper wrappers; covers lightly soiled and chipped, repaired some time ago with tape. Leaves loose, slightly darkened, first and last one pasted down to wrapper. => Despite external wear and slight fragility, still a vibrant and pleasing representation of the classic story.
