John Rae (1882-1963), after graduating from Pratt Institute High School, Brooklyn, in 1900 Rae attended the Art Students League of NY and was a student of illustrator and artist Howard Pyle. He authored and illustrated a number of children's books, including: The New Adventures of Alice, Grasshopper Green and the Meadow Mice, and Granny Goose. He contributed illustrations to over fifty books.
