[ca. 1850] · London
From the "Buds and Blossoms" series: Little Olly is failing to thrive in London, but remains honest and virtuous despite his frailty, and is eventually rewarded with a delightful and restorative stay in the countryside. Elijah Whymper contributed the cover design, the frontispiece of Olly meeting children in a haycart, and at least two of the five interior wood-engraved illustrations.
Provenance: From the children's book collection of Albert A. Howard, sans indicia. Publisher's printed peach paper wrappers; mild crumpling and dust-soiling, spine chipping and starting to split from foot, upper outer front corner with tear unobtrusively repaired some time ago. Pages clean and apparently untouched by childish hands. (Inventory #: 38458)
