Both volumes are extra-illustrated with the plates from the 1820 edition of this book, published in Paris with 75 plates and a portrait. The title-page from this 1820 edition is bound in front of the Amsterdam title-page in Volume 1. A stunning and important set of this. As per Worldcat, probably a re-issue of the 1743 edition, with a new title-page; imprint place probably fictitious, given in Mansell 311:389 as [Paris, Barraud et David jeune] Cf. Rochambeau, Bibliographie, II, 522; not in Weller./ With added engraved title in vol. 1, by Lebas./ The vignettes are generally by Cochin; however, in this copy, three of them are by Larmesin after Lancret (v. 1: p. 69 and 71; vol. 2: p. 81)--Compare Rochambeau and Mansell./ "Dissertation sur La Joconde à Monsieur B*** par M.
