In Cardboard cloth-tied Portfolios
1902 · Paris
by Gillieron, J. and Edmont, E.
Paris: Honore Champion, Editeur. Very Good. 1902. In Cardboard cloth-tied Portfolios. The original printing of this famous scholarly achievement complete in 35 fascicules published between 1902 and 1910. This is a dialect atlas of Romance language varieties in France, Southern Belgium and Western Switzerland. The basis of the work was the 700 interviews carried out in person by Edmont using a questionaire of over 1,500 items. These questionaires were then processed by Gillieron and his assistants and led to the creation of 1920 "dialect maps" which make up the finished product. The ribbon-tied cardboard portfolios which house the 35 fascicules of this set are 23 by 15 inches -- and the fascicules containing the 1,920 maps each retain the printed title wrapper/covers and measure 22 by 14 1/2 inches. Very Good condition. . (Inventory #: 75316)
