(Los Angeles?): W.B. Conkey Company. Very Good in Fair dj. (c.1915). Presumed 1st Edition. Hardcover. [book shows some wear at extremities and along top edge of front cover; jacket chipped and worn, some paper loss at spine ends, small hole mid-spine, internally tape-repaired]. (pen and ink drawings) "A Sensation in High Finance," this book purports to be "filled with practical and useful information, as well as a charming story, based upon facts and spiced with a beautiful romance." Apparently it's got something to do with "California and its ever fascinating gold mines" -- but wasn't it, like, 65 or so years too late to be ginning up California gold fever? According to an optimistic rear-jacket blurb, the author was in the throes of completing a companion/sequel volume called "Breaking the Seal," for which he was taking advanced orders; apparently it never saw the light of day, although twenty years later Mr. Klinker did issue another self-published tome, "God's Witness in Egypt." .
