Frankfurt:: c. 1880., 1880. 6 albumen prints. 15.5 x 10 cm. (#236 is 32 x 25 cm). Mat-boards. Some notations on boards; prints are untouched. All prints labeled with Herterl's name. Very good. Hertel was a German photographer who worked out of Mainz. Of these prints, the most interesting by far is the image of the Frankfurter Judengasse, one of the oldest ghettoes in Germany. This neighborhood was mostly demolished at the end of the 19th century, and what little remained was destroyed by Allied bombing in WWII. The building shown, the Ancestral Home of the Rothschilds, was built in the 17th century. 1) Frankfurt a. M., Gothemonument. Signed by C. Hertel, Mainz (Carl Hertel). . 2) Frankfurt a.
