signed first edition Stiff wraps
1986 · Seattle
by Chatham, Russell
Seattle: Winn Press, 1986. Stiff wraps. Near fine. A set of five, signed relief prints intended to accompany the limited edition volume of Jim Harrison's poetry collection, The Theory and Practice of Rivers. The prints measure 14x18", and are stored with the colophon in the original white folder, with black ribbon. All five are #35 of 175, each printed from wood-mounted, photo-engraved magnesium blocks. Deckle edges. Lower corner of colophon is slightly creased, ribbon is frayed, folder has edgewear with small closed tears and very slight smudging. "These rather non-specific prints were not intended to illustrate the poetry of Jim Harrison. Instead, they were meant to suggest, in their own small and silent way, the spirit of restlessness which is one of the artist's most valuable tools." Scarce. [Orr & Torrey A19.a]
