Hardcover (Full Leather)
1721 · London
by Chaucer, Geoffrey; Urry, John (ed.)
London: Bernard Lintot, 1721. First Edition. Hardcover (Full Leather). Very Good. Contemporary ruled calf, rebacked but rebacking failed and the front board cleanly detached, rear board interior joint weak but attached and sound. Old armorial bookplate inside front cover. Scattered minor foxing and soiling, very clean overall. The first Urry edition of Chaucer and the first edition not printed in black letter in folio (15 1/2" x 10"). A compendious achievement with additional tales never before printed (though all are apocryphal). With two frontis portraits, Urry and Chaucer, and woodcut illustrations at the beginning of the of tales. 626pp plus an 81 page glossary and errata. A bit of worming to the margin in the glossary,
