Shows some light staining along original center fold, otherwise in very good condition. Beautifully designed map showing the Alsace region in northwestern France divided into two parts; the left shows the Bas-Rhin, the right shows Haute-Rhin. The area is famous for grapes and wine including Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer and Crémant-Alsace. Gilles Robert de Vaugondy (1688-1766) was an important French mapmaker during the 18th century. His "Atlas Universel" was one of the most significant atlases of the period, integrating older sources with more modern surveyed maps in order to convey correct geographical and political information.
