· [New York]
The subtitle reads: " A paper read before the Medico-Legal Society of the City of New York, Wednesday evening, March 6, 1878." Palmer was a lawyer, served with distinction in the Civil War, and presented this paper while head of the legal department of the Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York. After discussing the legal view of suicide as a crime (i.e., a form of murder) he says, despite common beliefs, suicide is not proof of insanity. His view was novel at that time.
Front wrapper: "Compliments of the O.A. Palmer."
No copies in any form located via WorldCat (but we know of an as yet uncatalogued copy at the Library Company of Philadelphia. Sewn in light gray printed wrappers.
