Who Ben Kaputen Der Robin?: Mein Grossfader's Rhymers und Fable Tellen
(c.1960)·Garden City NY
by Morrah, Dave
Garden City NY: Doubleday & Company, Inc.. Near Fine in Very Good+ dj. (c.1960). Later Printing. Hardcover. [light wear to book at spine extremities; jacket has a couple of tiny closed tears at edges]. (cartoon drawings) The author turns his trademark mock-German double-talk style loose on various familiar fables and verses, with hilariously tongue-twisting results -- must be read aloud for maximum effect! The author, you might be interested to know, was born in Atlanta but lived most of his life in North Carolina; the jacket blurb describes his language as "a combination of Bavarian-Carolinian." (And the best thing about reading these aloud, as I can testify from personal experience, is that you don't even have to put any effort into faking a phony German accent -- it just comes out of your mouth naturally as you read.) Offered by ReadInk as our contribution to keeping corny dialect humor alive. . (Inventory #: 24051)
