by Hankins, (Col.)
New York: Hankins & Son, 1868. First Edition. Small Octavo. Title continues " ..... of the beautiful scenery and wonderful enchantment in Minnesota./ "To which is added 'A round of pleasure', with interesting notes of travel, maps, etc., and forming a comprehensive guide to the great North-west." 460 pages, [24] pages, illustrations with the hand-colored map by the Cotton brothers at the end of the volume in near fine condition with only a very small closed tear near bottom edge. While the author claimed it was a novel, its descriptions of early pioneer travel through the American Northwest; chiefly that of Minnesota have been proven to be accurate. 24 pages of advertisements in the back are for books, railroad lines, hotels, insurance companies, steamships, real estate brokers, etc. The book is in unusually bright condition bound in green cloth lettered and decorated in gilt and blind, pictorial gilt spine, all edges gilt. Very nice.
