1942 · Worcester, MA
by WHEELER, A.N.
Worcester, MA: by the Author, 1942. First Edition. 12mo. Printed textured card wrappers; 54pp. Minimal external wear; Very Good or better. Poems, all referencing Wheeler's extended residence in the far Canadian Northwest; illustrated throughout with photographs by the author. Includes a few compositions in the Cree language. Research suggests that Wheeler was the first postmaster of Bitumount, on the Athabasca River in northern Alberta. The poems are little more than amateur imitations of Robert Service, but the photographs (equally amateur, but all captioned) provide a compelling glimpse of primitive life in the Athabascan wilderness in the first half of the 20th century. Uncommon (OCLC 5 copies). (Inventory #: 42542)
