Contents: handwritten transcriptions of four poems, including "The Enslaved Negro"; three hand-painted greeting cards; a watercolor sketch of roses and bluebells; a handcolored print of a boy kicking over a girl's block house, "Henry Was Not Kind!"; a watercolor construction of flowers and a lyre; a circular print of a bird in a nest, framed by gilt devices; a lace-paper Friendship card; a chirping robin in a floral setting, gilt-stamped frame; a dozen or so unused leaves. Bound in elaborately embossed black morocco, decorated and pictorial boards and spine, eight raised corner devices with gilt rules and devices, gilt-stamped coated endpapers, all edges gilt. 11" x 9". "DeLaRue Cornish & Rock" gilt-stamped at foot of spine. "DeLaRue & Co." raised stamp on cover.
Several of the entries are dated 1847, one noted as "Sherbrooke." The binding was apparently made a decade or so earlier as the firm flourished from 1829 to 1832.
