Lordless
first edition
1936 · London
by KNEEN, E.G
London: Sidgwick & Jackson, 1936. First Edition. Near fine bright copy with a hint of handling and edge wear in a very good price-clipped dust jacket with some minor dust soiling to the rear panel, faint fading to the spine and some tiny nicks and tears. From the jacket flap: “A young widow of Tamburlaine the Great, left in peril of her life by the death of her ‘lord,’ escapes with Sebastian, a Dominican monk. The story describes their long journey across the deserts of Central Asia, the ex-queen’s devotion to her new ‘lord,’ and Sebastian’s struggle between love for his companion and the call of his order...” The front panel of the jacket has a striking graphic image of the monk holding a cross above the beautiful ex-queen as she swoons.
