"No, there will certainly not be any such thing as Deliverance II, Son of Deliverance or indeed anything more to do with Deliverance.." He mentions possible sources for his novel. "I can't say that it was 'inspired by a poem,' though I have a couple of poems written about the same subject matter... " and refers his correspondent to the forthcoming Southern Illinois University Press's publication of the novel's screenplay "if you'd like to know what I think of the film version which contains "a savage attack on the Hollywood mode of treating the writer." But he offers "that there can be but a few examples of a film made from a novel in which the movie stayed as close to the original story... That is a lot to be thankful for, but many battles had to be fought..." He concludes with mentioning his then forthcoming second novel Alnilam which "should be done in a year or two."
