Augustae Vindelicorum [i.e. Augsburg]: Martini Veith, 1744. First edition, 2 volumes in 1, 4to, pp. [16], 283, [1]; 587, [1]; 4 folding tables in the pagination; title page printed in red and black, woodcut ornaments and initials; nice enough copy in full contemporary paneled pigskin incorporating a portrait of a cardinal or pope central, and within an oval border bearing the motto "Freising 1737 Gloster Neustift Neghst" which is repeated on the lower cover; edges stained blue; pigskin thongs preserved but not the brass clasps. Amort (1692-1775) was a German Roman Catholic theologian. "Amort, who had the reputation of being the most learned man of his age, was a voluminous writer on every conceivable subject, from poetry to astronomy, from dogmatic theology to mysticism" (Wikipedia). This is one of his better known works.
