Nürnberg: Johann Paul Krauss, 1739. 8vo, pp. [46], 720, [94]; engraved frontispiece of a scribe working in a library; old vellum-backed boards, the spine almost perished and revealing the binding structure underneath; the binding a bit skewed, but sound. Pliny the Younger wrote hundreds of letters, of which 247 survive and are of great historical value. Some are addressed to reigning emperors or to notables such as the historian Tacitus.
