Joseph Schmuck purchased the Hanover Guardian in 1819, from its founder, Jacob Wiestling, a German Pennsylvania settler in York County. The weekly newspaper holds the distinction of being the first English language newspaper printed in Hanover. A very carefully kept record, in a worn, but still handsome,period binding.
