Black and white full-length carte de visite portrait of Ole Borneman Bull holding violin, 6 x 10 cm., slight amount of spotting but in fine condition; Accompanied by written note, in Norwegian, black ink, signed by Bull and dated "Washington ... 1852", with English translation in another hand beneath original note, 10 x 13 cm. PC Consignment. Ole Bornemann Bull (5 February 1810 - 17 August 1880) was a Norwegian virtuoso violinist and composer. According to Robert Schumann, he was on a level with Niccolò Paganini for the speed and clarity of his playing. [Wikipedia] John Jabez Edwin Paisley Mayall (17 September 1813 near Oldham, Lancashire - 6 March 1901 in Southwick, West Sussex) was an English photographer who in 1860 took the first carte-de-visite photographs of Queen Victoria.
