Paris:: Librairie de L. Hachette, 1870., 1870. 4to. [iv], 612 pp. 117 engravings, 6 chromolithographic plates. Original quarter crimson and gilt-stamped leather, red blind-stamped cloth, all edges gilt; extremities worn, joints cracked. Very good. An interesting collection of writings by 4 very different men joined by their fascination with aeronautics. Flammarion was a French astronomer and prolific author of works on popular science, Glasiher was an English meteorologist and aeronaut, Fonvielle was a dedicated balloonist, while Tissandier was a chemist, meteorologist, and aviator. This work describes many of their experience and experiments relating to air travel, principally in balloons. Includes some very nice illustrations.
