About Very Good, an unsophisticated copy in contemporary quarter leather over dark green mottled paper covered boards, pp. xxiii, 1, 440, errata sheet ( lacking in many copies), red leather label with gilt lettering and rules, boards and bottom edge rubbed, 3/4" loss of leather at head of spine. Contents clean and unmarked. Stamped "Doctour Mauricet" verso front end page. Printed label on front pastedown of: Bibl. Coll. S. F. Xaverii Venetensis. Auenbrugger (1722-1809) was head physician to the Hospital of the Holy Trinity at Vienna. First Edition of Corvisart's translation and a great medical classic. First published in 1761, a prior translation into French had already been made by Roziere de la Chassagne in 1770, having attracted little notice. It wasn't until Corvisart's translation came along with his extensive commentary based on his application of the method, growing a 95 page booklet into a 440 page volume, that percusssion, along with auscultation, soon became universally adopted in the medical world.
