(n.p.): Jack E. Birge. Very Good. (c.1981). Unstated edition. Softcover. [light exterior wear, tiny tear at top of spine; binding solid, internally clean]. Trade PB Self-published account of some miscarriage of justice done unto the author, although in the absence of a summarizing cover blurb, it's a little hard to figure out exactly what it was without actually reading the book. Apparently he ran afoul of the powers that be in Carrollton, Georgia (his introduction refers obliquely -- or is it metaphorically? -- to the "shark" who ran the town and unleashed his "destructive powers" on the good doctor, railroading him and at least one other fellow into the hoosegow). In the last line of his introduction, the author assures his readers that "everything in the book really happened and could happen to anyone who refuses to fit into a pattern dictated by the power structure of the community." (In the cover photo of the author behind bars, the stethoscope is a nice touch.) . (Inventory #: 14199)
