Archduke Johann Salvator of Austria wrote and designed the ballet under the pseudonym JohannTraugott. It was written for his lover and later wife Ludmilla ("Milli") Stubel, a ballerina withthe Vienna Court Opera with whom he had formed a life-long relationship. The ballet wasperformed in Vienna five times from November 12 to December 12, 1884. (Inventory #: 983782)
