Sole Bodoni edition and the second edition overall "corretta, ed accresciuta notabilmente dall' autore"; indeed, this Jesuit author's study of the art of Greco-Roman painters has been expanded to two volumes (comprising over 700 pages) from the 215-page first edition of 1784 that Giovanni Gatti published. => Bodoni's edition consists of just 100 copies.

Contemporary mottled calf, spines with raised bands and two gilt-stamped leather title-labels each, compartments gilt extra; all edges stained red and a green silk bookmark present in each volume. Front joint of vol. I cracked, scrape to rear board of vol. II; spines with reading cracks and minor loss to spine-ends, edges rubbed and some minor loss at bottom of each front joint. Provenance as above. Interiors => exceptionally bright and nice. (Inventory #: 40135)
