Great Railroad Photographs, U.S.A.
signed
1964 · Berkeley
by Beebe, Lucius and Charles Clegg
Berkeley: Howell-North Books, 1964 First and only "Subscription Edition," one of 2000 copies, numbered and signed by both authors. This copy with slightly different wording on the colophon leaf: "Five Hundred Fifty Copies Have Been Reserved To the Special Order of The Pittsburgh & Lake Erie Railroad." Laid into this copy are two business cards, one of John W. Barriger, President of the railroad company and C. D. Bufford, Executive Vice President. Large quarto. 12 x 9 inches. Special colophon leaf plus 243pp. Profusely illustrated with photos (some in color); index. A very fine copy with publisher's imprinted slipcase. Despite the limitation (which would be considered a bit high), this work is extremely scarce; one of the most difficult of the Beebe & Clegg titles to obtain. A wonderful anthology of railroad photographs, both historical and modern with shots of nearly every aspect of railroading, mostly in black & white but with many in color. A handsome book which includes photographs by Ansel Adams, Lucius Beebe, William Henry Jackson, A. J. Russell, Charles R. Savage, et al.. (Inventory #: 8323)
