Merck’s 1907 Drug Index.
1907 · [New York?]:
by [Merck].
4to, cloth, embossed title on front cover, 471 pp. Top joint cracked, some wear and staining binding, child's scribbles on rear endpaper and last page of book, normal aging and browning; otherwise about good. Merck was a German drug company founded in 1668, but the American subsidiary was expropriated in 1917 during the First World War. While the first index probably came out around 1889, this is still a relatively early drug index, and kind of scarce. The index describes the chemical components of hundreds of Merck drugs, and also fives a description of the drug's appearance. Also gives the uses for some of the drugs. (Inventory #: 106595)
