Harpers Weekly Issues Related to Impeachment of President Andrew Johnson.
March-May, 1868. · New York:
by [Impeachment].
Six issues, and one page, folio, illustrated. Removed, disbound, some sheets separated, a little staining to some issues, not consecutive issues, normal aging and browning; otherwise in about good condition. All issues are from Vol. XIL, including issues 585, 586, 587, 589, 590, 596 and one page from the April 4, 1868 issue. The one page features a couple of engravings concerning the impeachment, and the image of a ticket that admits the holder into the proceedings. Long before the Clinton impeachment, and current discussions about Trump, President Andrew Johnson was impeached and came very close to getting convicted. A major reason, were his efforts to implement President Lincoln's plan for reconstruction, which brought him into conflict with Congress, who wanted a more punitive approach. This lot is sold as a small collection. (Inventory #: 106613)
