The story is as much psychological and dramatic, setting many themes of Greek tragedy in Texas. It was adapted into a radio play in 1948 and two television films. The first, produced in 1966, starred Jason Robards and Olivia de Havilland; the second, airing in 1985, starred Fred Ward, Stellan Skarsgard, and Jon Cryer.
