In the original 6 monthly parts, in printed wrappers; an exceptional set, with ALL the ads called for by Hatton & Cleaver; notable are the famous "Cork Hats" ad in part II and the quite scarce "Chapman & Hall" 8 page ad in part V, dated 31st July, 1870. First issue, with "Price Eighteenpence" pasted onto front wrapper of part VI. All wrappers are correct. Twelve illustrations by S. L. Fildes and a portrait; [i-v]vi-vii, [1]2-190[192]. All plates are fine; spines are expertly renewed on all parts. Cork ad with short closed tear. [Together with] an autograph note by Dickens bibliographer, Thomas Hatton concerning this part I. Housed in a handsome red quarter leather slipcase, with chemise. Armorial bookplate on chemise. [Hatton & Cleaver, pp. 373-384].
