Blue cloth hardcover with gilt stamped illustrations front covers. Gilt lettered titles stamped on the spine. Edge wear to the boards. Corners bumped. Cloth is split on the spine and joint of volume 1. Light to moderate scattered foxing to the contents. This book is considered a Confederate imprint although the book was printed in England. The author, who died during the year of publication, writes in his advertisement about the dangers of sending this manuscript to an English publisher during the Yankee blockade of Charleston in the Civil War.
