Octavo, 2 volumes, bound in original publisher's green cloth, gilt titles and tooling to the spine, spine vignettes in black, illustrated with 3 folding maps and a mounted photographic portrait frontispiece. In near fine condition. Burnaby joined the Royal Horse Guards in 1859, but, when not assigned to active duty, he crafted his own adventures. He ballooned across the English Channel, and traveled in Spain, Asia Minor and Russia. He was wounded, and eventually killed, fighting for the British Empire. "These volumes contain an account of a journey on horseback through Asia Minor..." over five months, and over a distance of 2000 miles. (Inventory #: 105843)
