Artist William Kurelek provides 20 full color illustrations to accompany his own memories of the difficulties and joys of winter on the Canadian prairie during the 1930s. Among other things, Kurelek describes his chores, the games played with friends, the first snow, and the coming of spring. The sequel, "A Prairie Boy's Summer", was published in 1975.
