Tokyo: Salesian Orphanage, 1949. Very good.. 84pp. Original pictorial printed wrappers, stapled. Minor wear and soiling. Second edition. Written by a Catholic priest, this work reports on the efforts of the Church and others to assist with the orphans and other wandering persons, particularly children, displaced in the wake of World War II. It particularly highlights the work of the Salesian Orphanage, where it was printed. The work is illustrated with images of the orphans, their caretakers, and the various facilities of the orphanage. This second edition includes a section on the inauguration of the new orphanage building and the continued rise in vagrant children on the streets of Tokyo. One copy of a 64pp. edition published in 1948, presumably the first, located at Columbia University. We find no copies of this lengthier, second edition. (Inventory #: 1011)
