by Allen J. Hubin
1975. Soft Cover. Very Good binding. Starting in 1967, Allen J. Hubin began his passion project: The Armchair Detective, an early mystery fanzine. Eventually TAD would begin publishing random corrections and additions to Ordean Hagen?s posthumous Whodunit (1969), the first major bibliography of detective fiction. Hubin then began to issue not random corrections but ?say, a 20-page bibliographic supplement at the back of each TAD,? beginning with the A?s and steadily progressing through the alphabet. After joining with the Mystery Library project at the University of California San Diego, Hubin mailed to subscribers of TAD the largest, final S-Z section. This was all before Hubin updated and revised the work to make it definitive to the end of 1975, making this collection a true ur-edition of Hubin?s work, a sort of first draft of what would become the first 1979 edition. Two-hole portfolio binding with front and rear covers. Spots of loss to the top left corner of the initial leaf. (Allen J. Hubin ?My Life of Crime Fiction?
