The Penns of Pennsylvania explain that in 1779, "during the unhappy Troubles which then prevailed in North America, the aforementioned Proprietaries, by an Act of Assembly passed in the Province of Pennsylvania, were violently divested of all their said Charter Rights, and of all their Estates in said Province."
