New York: Sold by William Hamilton, Edmund and George W. Blunt [etc.], 1825. First edition. [iv], 196, [20, ads] pp. 1 vols. Narrow agenda 8vo. Contemporary mottled sheep, red spine label. Minor wear at extremities, a fresh and attractive copy. Very good. First edition. [iv], 196, [20, ads] pp. 1 vols. Narrow agenda 8vo. A choice copy of the uncommon first edition of this standard American manual, by the important New York publisher of The American Coast Pilot, Bowditch's Practical Navigator, and many other sea manuals. Blunt's advertisement to the Expeditious Measurer explicitly states the reason for the new title, noting the many (and potentially costly) errors in the Merchant's and Ship-Captain's Ready Calculator (1816) "all which have been corrected in this edition." Blunt's work went through many editions during the antebellum period. Interestingly, Blunt's book ends with a discussion of calculating volumes of casks of wine and beer. American Imprints 19773
