In a very good example of the scarce dust jacket, slightly soiled with only minor edgewear. Contains eight color illustrations and color endpapers by Schaeffer. Typee was Melville's first novel, inspired by the author's experiences on the island Nuku Hiva in the Marquesas Islands. Originally published in 1846 in London as Narrative of a Four Month Residence Among the Natives of the Marquesa Islands; or, A Peep at Polynesian Life.
