John Middleton Murry (Katherine Mansfield's husband) published this collection of short stories on the late author's behalf. It contains 21 stories (6 finished and 15 unfinished) that Mansfield was writing during/after the production of her most recent book, The Garden Party (1922). While Mansfield had decided on the title for this particular compilation, Murry could only speculate on the stories she intended to feature; at the age of 34, she died suddenly from complications of her tuberculosis.
