Angas was a shrewd businessman and a devout Christian who dealt with the economic decline in England of the 1830's by a major effort to insure that economic and religious freedom would lead to political freedom. Hodder's biography has remained the great study of Angas whose strict religion prevented the exploitation of other English colonization efforts especially in Africa.
