Bound in brown publisher's cloth, Woolman and Whittier's name gilt on upper board, title and Whittier's name gilt on spine; presentation inscription in ink on front endpaper. Some underlining in the text in red ink. Very good copy nicely printed at the Riverside Press. Originally published in Philadelphia in 1774, this is one of the scores of editions of Woolman's Journal published throughout the 19th century. This copy with the 50-page introduction by Whittier, originally published in 1872. Wright Howes writes when referring to the 1774 edition of the Works, "Including his famous Journal, of which innumerable separate editions, both American and English, have since appeared.
