A series of water colour drawings by William Gibb, one of the major military illustrators at the end of the 19th century. Descriptive notes by Richard Holmes and an introduction by Viscount Wolseley. The plates include the American flags taken in the War of 1812, the Sword and Coast of Lord Nelson at Waterloo and many others all with tissue guards. Occasional spots of scattered foxing to the text but plates are fresh and free from foxing. Bound in publisher's red pictorial gilt cloth lettered in gilt spine lettering gilt, blue endpapers, only minor rubbing to spine ends and some stains and wear to spine. A beautiful work housed within publisher's original heavy board slipcase with front paste down showing some rubbing. [Book and slipcase weighs 11 pounds].
