Prague: Jaroslav Motyčka, 1930. Octavos (23.5 × 16 cm). Publisher's pictorial wrappers; 440 pp. of consecutive pagination. Occasional light ear to wrapper edges; overall very good. Substantial first year run of this Czech interwar journal, which was associated with the Czech National Labor Party (Národní strana práce) and the Czech National-Socialist Party (Československá strana národně socialistická). Laid into the first issue are two leaflets explaining the political aims of the new journal. The publication was continued until the Protectorate years, but only this first yearly run features the illustrated wrappers (on all but four issues), with political satires on topical subjects, expressing the pacifist, anti-clerical, and generally leftist orientation of the editors. Among the artists were noted caricaturists and artists such as Antonín Pelc, Vlastimil Rada, and František Bidlo. Contributors include Jan Slavík, Otakar Klapka, Karel Moudrý, Jindřich Plachta, Václav Klofáč, and others. Outside the Czech Republic, KVK, OCLC show copies at Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, British Library, Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin, and IISG.
