Warsaw: Franciszka Kwiatkowska, 1924. Octavo (25 × 17.5 cm). Original staple-stitched printed wrappers with cover and typography design by Mieczysław Szczuka; 24 pp. Very good. Single issue of the important Polish modernist and avant-garde literary and political journal, published from July 1923 to September 1924. "Nowa kultura" was a continuation of "Kultura Robotnicza" ("Proletarian Culture"), an official organ of the Polish Communist Party. As such, both journals were heavily influenced by Soviet Proletkult and other left-leaning writers. Among the Polish contributors were Mieczyslaw Braun, Broniewski, Stanislaw Brucz, Stanislaw Ryszard Stand, and Witold Wandurski. With translations of work by Vasilii Kamensky, Ilya Erenburg, Aleksandr Bogdanov, Sergei Esenin, Yevgeny Zamyatin and others. The issues also feature theoretical articles about cinema and reviews of recent international films. With appealing typographic wrappers and minimalist textual layout throughout.
