Complete 11 volume set, from the collection of Melville Best Anderson, distinguished American scholar noted for authoring the first complete translation into English and in triple rime of Dante's "Divine Comedy". His ownership signature in most of the volumes, and a two stanza, eight line dedication to Anderson front end page of Vol. I, dated May 12, 1887, signed F.F.B. ( author unknown) that reads : " As one in city streets, amidst the noise, The din and tumult of the discordant scene, Viewing a lovely flower yearns for the joys Of roaming free o'er fields of living green. So in my dusty ways of toil and care, This book, O friend, brings to my fancy's flights Longing for larger strolls amidst these fair And splendid fields thick blossoming with delights." Eleven volumes bound in original dark green cloth, gilt lettering, top edges gilt, dark brown end papers. Near Fine, small rubs to cloth. Small 2 line poem verso 1st front end page in pencil, perhaps in Anderson's hand, labels of the State University of Iowa 2 vols.
