Singular Kaleidoscope Cat - "PEACOCK", circa 1930s
Original gouache watercolor on paper of a maniacal feline incorporating abstract peacock-feather motifs, taken from a sketchbook of the artist during his mental confinements, the album dispersed at Christie's South Kensington, January 1997.
This is one of many unique drawings that the artist created while at Napsbury Hospital near St Albans in Hertfordshire. These "kaleidoscope" cats, often attributed to his malady while committed, was partly a result of his experimentation in drawing patterns and cats. (Inventory #: BBO38)
