Cambridge and Boston: Metcalf and Co, 1848. Thick Quarto. Volume 3. Unopened. lxxxii, 290pp., 46 illustrations(some folding) and 1 folding chart. The plants selected were of new, rare or otherwise interesting North American plants selected from those recently brought into cultivation at the Botanic Garden of Harvard University. Besides the plants, included are North American Bryology, liverworts, footprints, fossils along with occultation, eclipses, Orion Nubula, peccaries, comets, and satellites. Each section was written by the specialist in that particular field which includes Asa Gray, John Pickering, President of the Academy(with a 82 page eulogy by Daniel Appleton White) died before this volume was completed. George and William Bond, Edward Hitchcock, John L. Le Conte and Edward Everet. Bound in original brown paper wraps printed in black some chipping to spine ends and edges, light wear overall. No foxing. names or plates. A very scarce volume.
