8vo
1819 · London
by EMMERTON, Isaac (circa 1769-1823)
London: Printed for the author, 1819. 8vo. (7 x 4 1/4 inches). Hand coloured engraved frontispiece, engraved by Hebner and Madox. Uncut. Contemporary paper-backed boards.
A scarce work on the auricula.
The author, a Barnet, Hertsfordshire (now London) nurseryman and florist, originally published this work devoted to the auricula, in 1815. Besides detailed descriptions on the flower's cultivation, the work includes a list of varieties, as well as much information on and recipes for composting. Bound in the rear are lists of subscribers of both the first and the present second edition, which reads like a who's who of London nurseryman. Both editions are rare. (Inventory #: 30932)
