Bookworm hole to fore edge margin and another to bottom margin (no loss of text in either case), 1 inch split to top of front joint, ink scribbles on half-title and title pages (someone crossed out some very old writing, using so much ink on the base of the title page that it actually caused a split in that page margin), affixed to inside of front board is a certification that this volume belonged to The Order of Knights of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem, more commonly called The Knights Hospitaller or Knights of Malta. 1668 Hard Cover. A work by the secular priest who Louis XIV appointed as his preacher and almsgiver in 1667, largely as a result of this work, which is a treatise of political philosophy designed as a guide for good governance by a Christian prince (a style of work generally referred to as 'mirrors for princes').
